PALM DESERT, CA — A windblown dust advisory was issued Monday in the Coachella Valley due to gusty winds in the region.
The advisory will remain in place through at least 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Air Quality Index levels were expected to reach the very unhealthy category due to high-particle pollution. "Levels of particle pollution can vary by time and location depending on emissions and local weather conditions," the National Weather Service stated.
Winds gusts were expected to reach as high as 50 mph on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
The SCAQMD advised the people in the area to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed, avoiding vigorous activity, and running air conditioners or air purifiers.
Air quality can vary by hour and location, depending on wind conditions.
This week, the weather will be about 20 degrees cooler than coming weeks, according to meteorologists.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 90. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. West wind 15 to 20 mph, decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 80. North wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. West wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 83. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 88.
Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 66.
