INDIO, CA — An 86-year-old man was was killed after he was struck by a car in Indio Wednesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to a crash at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday on Avenue 44, west of Jackson Street, according to the Indio Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found the man who had sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the man was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a Ford Focus. The driver, identified only as a 49-year-old man, was cooperative with investigators at the scene.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
The cause of the collision was under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact Indio Police Department's Traffic Division at 760-391- 4051.
