Windblown Dust Advisory Extended Through June 20 In Coachella Valley

Gusty winds of up to 55 mph were expected to cause periods of elevated particle pollution, officials said.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — The South Coast Air Quality Management District Thursday extended a windblown dust advisory in the Coachella Valley through Saturday.

The advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Saturday due to air quality levels reaching "hazardous" in northern Cathedral City and Mecca and "unhealthy" in Indio, officials said.

Gusty winds of up to 55 mph were expected to cause periods of elevated particle pollution, with northwest Coachella Valley to expect the highest impacts.

The public was advised to limit exposure outdoors, avoid vigorous physical activity, run air conditioning or an air purifier and to slow down while driving on dirt roads.
