Construction On New $45M Indio Police Headquarters Begins This Week

INDIO, CA — The city of Indio will start construction this week on a new $45 million police headquarters at the highly lauded Public Safety Campus.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at 46800 Jackson Street for the new HQ that will serve as the central hub for law enforcement operations in the city.

The facility described by city officials as a state-of-the-art public safety campus, will feature locker rooms, workstations, offices, a gym, a training area, meeting and interview rooms and public spaces designed to enhance community engagement.

"Indio is a growing community, and we are committed to investing in the infrastructure needed to support that growth," Mayor Elaine Holmes said in a statement. "This new police headquarters is a critical step in ensuring our city remains safe, resilient and well-prepared to serve our residents for generations to come."

Construction has wound down on the first phase of the 43,000-square-foot Public Safety Campus, which includes a new fire station, a dispatch center, and a two-story public safety services building.

Officials announced on April 2 that the city was "advancing the next major phase of its Public Safety Campus," with construction of the new police headquarters that is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

“As our city continues to grow, so does the demand for high-quality public safety services,” said Chief of Police Brian Tully. “It will give our officers and staff the tools they need to best serve our community and maintain the highest level of service for our residents and those visiting the City of Indio year-round.”
