INDIO, CA — A 40-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street on an electric scooter in Indio.
The crash was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Golf Center parkway and Chandi Way, according to the Indio Police Department.
A Honda CR-V traveling at an unspecified rate of speed northbound on Golf Center Parkway hit a person crossing in a crosswalk, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The victim, whose identity was not revealed, was apparently trapped beneath the vehicle, according to the fire department. Crews used specialized lifting bags to raise the vehicle and free the patient. He sustained major injuries and was airlifted via air ambulance to a hospital.
The driver, identified only as a 38-year-old man, cooperated with investigators at the scene.
Northbound Golf Center Parkway to Avenue 44 was temporarily closed to collect evidence at the scene and reopened at about 9:50 p.m. the same day.
