PALM SPRINGS, CA — Due to an unspecified illness affecting some of the cats and kittens at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, the facility has temporarily halted accepting felines until later this month.
Shelter officials said they are attempting to contain the outbreak by treating affected felines and performing enhanced cleaning and sanitation throughout the cat areas.
The number of affected animals was not provided.
"The temporary pause allows us to provide the best possible care for the animals already with us while helping prevent further spread," officials said.
The shelter started the pause on Monday and was hoping to reopen cat and kitten intake on July 27.
