Project To Expand Desert Hot Springs Police Headquarters Likely To Wrap Up In Weeks

The $7.26 million "Police Department Annex Building Project" got underway in March 2025 adjacent to the main police building.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — An expansion project to provide additional office and storage space at the Desert Hot Springs Police Department will likely be finished by the end of summer, officials said Wednesday.

The $7.26 million "Police Department Annex Building Project" got underway in March 2025 adjacent to the main police building at 65950 Pierson Blvd. It's phase one of an ongoing enlargement of the public safety campus, where a fire station is also planned, officials said.

"This building will be very beneficial and a great addition to the city," Councilman Gary Gardner said. "The current building is crowded, so I know everyone is excited about this new addition."

City Manager Daniel Porras said the annex will provide the detective squad with more workspace and storage capacity. Additional parking will also be available as a result of the expansion.

Porras said detectives have been housed in temporary trailers for more than 14 years, so the annex is long overdue.

The expansion proposal was unanimously approved by the DHS City Council in December 2024. Not long afterward, Ontario-based Perera Construction & Design Inc. was awarded the annex contract.

The project budget is drawing on revenue from a 2022 public safety bond, federal American Rescue Plan Act allocations to the city and development impact fee collections, according to municipal documents.
