PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs Plaza Theatre will pay tribute to the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, a dance and musical revue that ran at the venue for 23 seasons, with a documentary screening and live performances later this year.
The Dec. 14 tribute will feature a screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary "Still Kicking: The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies" and live performances. Among the performers and special guests will be former Follies performers, singer and actress Susan Anton, Emmy Award-winning actress Donna Mills, international ballroom champion and two-time "Dancing with the Stars" champion Kym Johnson, singer and dancer Trina Parks and former featured soloist with the Follies Marcia Harp.
The Follies were a group of dancers and entertainers ranging from 55 to 84 years of age that performed at the facility from 1992 through 2014. According to the Plaza Theatre Foundation, they were known for glamorous showgirls, dazzling costumes and lively musical numbers that honored the spirit of "classic Broadway and old Hollywood entertainment."
"Over nine decades, the Plaza Theatre was privileged to host scores of engaging events, including film premieres, live radio broadcasts, fantastic live performances and the first Palm Springs International Film Festival," J.R. Roberts, president of the foundation, said in a statement. "In its later years, the theater welcomed people from around the world to attend the Follies, so it is fitting that we honor that popular program with a special tribute."
Proceeds from the event will benefit the foundation.
