Man Accused Of Hit-And-Run Collision In Riverside County Arrested

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, police said.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — Police arrested a 53-year-old man suspected of striking and seriously injuring a pedestrian with his vehicle before fleeing the scene in Desert Hot Springs, authorities announced on Friday.

Officers responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday on Palm Drive. When they arrived, officers found a man in the roadway suffering from serious injuries, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, police said.

Authorities said they used Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader cameras to identify the suspect's vehicle.

They also learned the suspect, identified as Clark Bonillas Dionisio, of Desert Hot Springs, purchased bus and train tickets to evade arrest. He was arrested around 5 p.m. Thursday in Palm Springs hours before he was set to leave the state, authorities said.

Dionisio was booked on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, authorities said.

Dionisio is being held on bail set at $500,000, authorities said.

No additional information was immediately available.
