DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — A 33-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning in a collision that injured two others on eastbound Interstate 10 in Cactus City near Mecca.

Alexis Dare of Desert Hot Springs was fatally injured shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday west of the Cactus City Rest Area, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Bureau and the California Highway Patrol.

Dare was inside a Kia Forte traveling at a high rate of speed when it "failed to adjust the vehicle's speed for changing patterns ahead" and rear-ended a Tesla Model 3, according to the CHP. The crash caused both vehicles to veer out of control and overturn in the median.

As the Kia rolled over, Dare, who was the front-seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with moderate to major injuries.

Alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a factor in the collision, the agency reported.

Anyone with additional information was asked to call 760-772-5300.
