Vehicle Slams Into Palm Springs Apartment Building, Displacing Residents

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Three people were displaced Monday after a vehicle crashed into a Palm Springs apartment building, causing significant damage and prompting concerns about a possible gas leak.

The non-injury crash was reported shortly after 7:40 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of South Calle Encilia, according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.

Arriving firefighters found an unoccupied white Toyota Highlander partially inside the building. The vehicle struck an unoccupied apartment, and firefighters secured a possible gas leak, authorities said.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist three people who were displaced from the building.

A city building inspector was also called to the scene to evaluate the structure.

The whereabouts of the Toyota's driver were not immediately known.
