2 Arrests Announced Following DUI Crackdown In Indio

INDIO, CA — Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired during a DUI enforcement operation in Indio, police said Monday.

"We are committed to taking impaired drivers off the road," Sgt. Peter Fuentes said in a statement. "Driving under the influence is not only dangerous, but also has major consequences."

The operation was conducted from 6 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday across the city, according to the Indio Police Department.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI offense face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, the department stated.

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
