1. 11 CSUSB Palm Desert Students Named Rogers Scholars For 2026-27 Academic Year (patch.com) — Eleven students at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus have been named Rogers Scholars for the 2026–27 year, bringing significant scholarship support to local degree-seekers. The awards, funded by the Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship Fund, recognize academic excellence, leadership, and service, and the scholars will be honored at a campus reception on September 29.
   

2. The Living Desert set to break ground on lion habitats, event center after city extension – The Palm Desert Post (thepalmdesertpost.com) — Palm Desert residents can expect major changes at The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens after the city's Planning Commission granted a one-year extension that keeps a large expansion on track for a 2028 opening. Within weeks, the zoo plans to break ground on new lion habitats, a 37,650-square-foot event center, administrative offices, and a redesigned Portola Avenue entrance.
   

3. College of the Desert Nursing Program Celebrates 60th Anniversary (nbcpalmsprings.com) — College of the Desert's nursing program is marking its 60th anniversary with a pinning ceremony for new graduates this Friday at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. The long-running vocational nursing program continues to train students to serve the Coachella Valley's health care needs, sending another class of nurses into local clinics and hospitals.
   

4. Assemblymember Greg Wallis' western Joshua Tree bill passes legislature, heads to Governor's desk (kesq.com) — From Palm Desert, Assemblymember Greg Wallis announced that his Western Joshua Tree bill, AB 1663, has cleared the Legislature and is headed to the governor. The measure aims to simplify permits for trimming or removing western Joshua trees on private property while keeping conservation protections and expanding collaboration with Native American tribes on cultural uses.
