1. Palm Desert Council Calls for Less Planned Power Outages (mynewsla.com) — Palm Desert residents could see fewer planned power shutoffs during triple-digit heat if the City Council approves a new resolution urging Southern California Edison to reschedule maintenance outages outside peak summer months. The proposal also pushes SCE to better coordinate and communicate with affected homes and businesses, after a recent outage nearly left 878 customers without power on a July afternoon.
2. Woman, 65, charged with murder after 'unknown trouble' call Palm Desert (amedpost.com) — A homicide investigation is underway after deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station found an assault victim dead Friday morning at a condo community near The Enclave on Gateway Drive. A 65-year-old woman, Vicky Kim, was arrested at the scene on murder charges, while investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit continue to withhold the victim's identity pending family notification.
3. Indio Man Arrested on Suspicion of Weapons Violations (mynewsla.com) — Deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station helped investigate a reported road rage incident involving a firearm, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old Indio man. A search of his home and vehicle turned up multiple firearms, body armor, high-capacity magazines and ammunition, and investigators are asking anyone with more information to contact them by phone.
4. Coachella Mexican eatery fails inspection for missing certification (desertsun.com) — Riverside County health inspectors checked restaurants across the Coachella Valley, including Palm Desert, between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, with all but one location in Coachella earning passing grades. While Birreria Jalisco must fix several violations before a follow-up visit, Palm Desert diners can see that local eateries were inspected during this period and met minimum health standards.
