BLYTHE, CA — A 62-year-old man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on eastbound Interstate 10 in Blythe that left three other people hospitalized, authorities said Thursday.
The crash was reported about 4:15 p.m. Monday west of Neighbors Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 2020 Chevrolet Spark, being driven by a 41-year-old man from Glendale, Arizona was traveling at an unspecified rate of speed when it struck the rear the rear of a stopped 2017 Subaru Outback. The agency stated that several vehicles had stopped in the No.1 lane prior to the crash due to nearby construction work.
The impact of the collision caused the Subaru to hit the rear of a 2023 Ford Bronco, which propelled the Bronco to smash into the back of a stopped 2022 Acura MDX. The Outback and the Spark came to a rest blocking the No. 1 lane, while the other vehicles were moved to the center median. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the collision.
Paramedics responded to the scene a short time later and drove the Outback driver to Blythe Airport for air transport, but the man was pronounced dead there.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's Office identified him as Allen Glazer of Buckeye, Arizona.
The front-seat passenger of the Outback and the driver of the Spark were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs via airship. A Spark passenger was flown to Valley Wide Health in Phoenix. The severity of their injuries were not immediately known.
