INDIO, CA — The South Coast Air Quality Management District will help invest in two public safety vehicle projects for the city in Indio aimed to reduce emissions, it was announced Thursday.
"I am proud to see South Coast AQMD resources coming directly to Indio to support cleaner technology and our first responders. These investments help us improve air quality while providing our public safety teams with the modern equipment they need to serve our communities," Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez said in a statement.
Indio plans to replace its mobile command post, a deployable vehicle or trailer used by public safety agencies to manage operations, with an all- electric unit at a cost of up to $878, 823.88, which the city and AQMD will split the costs.
"These investments give our officers access to modern, reliable equipment that will strengthen our ability to respond during emergencies while reducing our environmental impact," Police Chief Brian Tully said in a statement.
