PALM SPRINGS, CA — Actor Darren Criss will headline an anniversary concert at the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre on Dec. 1, marking one year since the historic venue reopened following a $34 million renovation.
The concert, scheduled for 7 p.m. at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive, will also kick off the theater's 90th anniversary celebration.
The venue reopened in 2025 following an extensive restoration that brought the theater back into operation after more than a decade.
"A year ago, we brought the lights back on at the Plaza Theatre for the first time in more than a decade. Celebrating that night with an artist of Darren's range, and using it to open our 90th year, is exactly the kind of moment this theatre was restored for," John Bolton, the venue's general manager, said in a statement.
The Plaza Theatre originally opened Dec. 12, 1936, with the premiere of the film "Camille," starring Greta Garbo, according to the theater's website.
Its 90th anniversary will fall on Dec. 12.
The restoration was carried out through a partnership involving the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation, Oak View Group and the city of Palm Springs.
Criss, known for his role in the television series "Glee," won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for his performance in "American Crime Story."
He also received a Tony Award for his work in the Broadway musical "Maybe Happy Ending."
Tickets for the anniversary concert are scheduled to go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at palmspringsplazatheatre.com.
