COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — An annual fundraiser benefiting three animal centers throughout the Coachella Valley raised more than $35,000 during the live broadcast, it was announced Thursday.
The "Tail-A-Thon" was broadcast from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday on NBC Palm Springs. This is the fundraiser's fourth year.
"Funds raised will support Palm Springs Animal Shelter, Desert Wildlife Center and Desert Community Animal Center, helping us provide care, compassion and life-saving services to animals throughout the Coachella Valley," the Palm Springs Animal Center said in a social media post Thursday.
During the evening, the shelter brought in a 15-month-old hound mix named Elektra, currently being fostered.
"She's got personality to spare," they said. "Curious, playful, smart, and just a little mischievous, Elektra is one of our office dogs who loves climbing onto desks to supervise the team. She's great with other dogs, loves people, and is ready to find her forever home."
The three-hour broadcast brought in $35,422 in donations.
The shelter released a statement over social media.
"We are so grateful for this community and your continued support. We couldn't do it without you!"
