LA QUINTA, CA — The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is waiving adoption fees this weekend during a special pet adoption event in La Quinta, held in partnership with the nonprofit Petco Love.

The "Jump into Joy" adoption event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Petco store located at 78720 California State Route 111 in La Quinta.

County shelter staff will bring adoptable dogs and cats to the store as part of Petco Love's nationwide adoption weekend. Standard adoption fees will be waived for all available pets. Each adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, and an engraved identification tag.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to meet amazing pets, each deserving of a loving place to call home," Riverside County Department of Animal Services Director Mary Martin said in a statement. "We encourage the community to jump into joy by adopting your new best friend."

The nationwide initiative is tied to the upcoming release of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation's animated feature "The Cat in the Hat," with actor Bill Hader voicing promotional announcements encouraging shelter pet adoptions.

Petco Love President Chelsea Staley said the event is designed to connect families with companions needing homes.

"The Cat in the Hat reminds us that even an ordinary day can become something joyful," Staley said. "Adopting a pet brings that same sense of fun and possibility into your life."

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services takes in more than 35,000 animals each year across its four facilities, operating one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the United States.
