Angels in the Outfield

Spunky baseball fans travel four hours round trip from Palm Desert to see Angels defeat A's June 13.

As the saying goes, when you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, and when you live in the desert, that axiom hits home. An enthusiastic group of Angel fans recently escaped the triple digit heat for the day when they filed into a luxurious, air conditioned bus in Palm Desert on June 13 for a two-hour chauffeured drive out to the ball game in Anaheim, where they had the time of their lives.

Not just any fan will drive two hours each way to see their team, much less those whose average age is mid-eighties, but given the opportunity to take an easy day trip with Cardiff transportation, this intrepid group from The Fountains at The Carlotta was all dressed up and raring to go.

“We take advantage of lots of Cardiff’s day trips,” said Vanessa Villalobos, The Fountains’ community life director who planned the outing and accompanied the group. “By all accounts, everyone had a blast from beginning to end,” she said.

Not only were the Palm Desert neighbors thrilled to witness the home team win 1-0 against the A’s from their leftfield seats, according to Villalobos, they also enjoyed watching the Wells Fargo Saturday Night Spectacular fireworks show after the game. They even enjoyed blue skies in the low 70s throughout the late afternoon game.

Their only regret: They didn’t catch a ball. However, they sure had one.
