Assault Suspect Arrested After Indian Canyon Drive Domestic Dispute

Palm Springs Police arrested one person after reports of a person "brandishing a handgun" and making threats.

INDIO, CA — A 26-year-old man suspected of assaulting two people during a domestic-related dispute in Palm Springs was behind bars Monday.

Andres Cervantes of Indio was booked into Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of assault with a firearm, criminal threats and felon in possession of a firearm, among other charges, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a person brandishing a handgun shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of North Indian Canyon Drive. Police said Cervantes allegedly assaulted two people and pointed a firearm at them while making threats.

It was unclear what led up to the confrontation.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate Cervantes, who had fled on foot.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, police received a tip about someone matching Cervantes' description in the area of East Racquet Club and North Indian Canyon Drive.

A drone was used to locate him and officers arrested him without incident, police said. A firearm was not recovered.
