Beloved Police Chief Planning To 'Step Away,' Celebrated At Annual Palm Springs Luncheon

Business leaders, community members, and city officials recognized first responders and celebrated the partnership between all agencies.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A luncheon celebrating the Palm Springs police and fire members, who serve and protect the city, was slated to take place Thursday at the Convention Center. This event occurred even as beloved Palm Springs Police Chief Andrew Mills says he's planning to soon leave his position.

Mills recently announced, 'It's time to find my next mission,' and shared he is selling his home and planning to step down once the pieces are in place. He isn't resigning or retiring "just yet, but is preparing for his next steps," according to his personal Facebook page.

"This is a transition period; it's time to step away. I've been working hard on a succession plan, and help lead the community in the same way that I've established," he told Fred Roggin in a recent interview. Mills has thanked city leaders and members of his department, saying they are committed to serving the community.
