Roads Close In Palm Springs Due To Wind, Sand
The closures came amid a dust advisory issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — High wind and blowing dust forced the closure of three critical roads in Palm Springs Monday — North Indian Canyon Drive, North Gene Autry Trail and El Cielo Road.
Indian Canyon Drive was shut down around 6 a.m. between Sunrise Parkway and Garnet Avenue due to sand build-up caused by high winds, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. At 9:18 a.m., the police department announced the road was reopened to traffic, but it had to be closed again at around 3 p.m.
El Cielo Road was closed between Sunny Dunes and Mesquite in both directions at 10:48 a.m., and North Gene Autry Trail was closed between East Via Escuela and Salvia shortly after 11 a.m.

The closures came amid a dust advisory issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District that will be in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday. The agency warned that blowing dust can result in unhealthy air quality, urging people to avoid outdoor exposure due to the gusty conditions.
For drivers, meanwhile, the high winds can cause visibility issues and accumulations of sand on roadways.
