Body Found Near Desert Hot Springs Identified As Local Man

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — Authorities Friday were investigating the killing of a 20-year-old man whose body was found in an open desert area in Desert Hot Springs.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the body of David Joaquin Murrieta of Desert Hot Springs was found Thursday on the southeast corner of Mission Lake Boulevard and Little Morongo Road.

Deputies located the body while searching for a missing person, said sheriff's Sgt. Rick Espinoza who did not specify if Murrieta was the person they were looking for.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, Espinoza said.
