Major Renovations Coming to LQHS

La Quinta High School is undergoing construction, which will result in a whole new layout.

The La Quinta High School campus has experienced major renovations since the 2010-11 school year, including additional portables overtaking a baseball field and a refurbished gymnasium complete with new flooring.

“The new renovations will provide modern classrooms with state-of-the-art learning environments,” said LQHS Assistant Principal Davis Scott.

However, this is just the beginning of a series of “phases” in the remodeling LQHS, all of which are set for completion in early 2015.

Phase One is in its early stage, with plans to start “breaking ground”—or clearing the surrounding fields—in November of this year. The ideal time of completion for this initial step is early January.

Also included in Phase One is the addition of three new buildings specifically designed for the LQHS academies; namely Health Academy, Public Service Academy, and Culinary Arts. Digital models and visualizations have already been created with the floor plans of each building.

New renovations are not only coming to the classroom environments, but on the athletic fields as well. The construction of an eight-mile court for track runners and extra workout rooms are scheduled to start in the 2012-13 school year.

An estimated 18 months marks the total completion time of Phase One, with the intention of removing all existing portables and replacing them with two new classroom wings.
