Forever Marilyn Community Celebration

Forever Marilyn Community Celebration

Event Details

Downtown Park, Palm Springs, CA, 92262

PS Resorts will host a Forever Marilyn Community Celebration on June 1, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., on what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 99th birthday. The special event will also commemorate the Forever Marilyn statue’s new home in Palm Springs’ Downtown Park – which is where the celebration will be held.

The Forever Marilyn Community Celebration will be hosted by one of Palm Springs' most revered ‘Marilyn’ drag queens – Vanity Halston – and feature music, birthday treats (one per person, while supplies last) and a Marilyn Monroe Look-alike Contest that will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes to those who are best channeling Marilyn Monroe’s iconic beauty.

The 26-foot Forever Marilyn sculpture that made its initial debut in Palm Springs in 2012, then returned to the city in 2021 – positioned on Museum Way, which was temporarily closed for the installation. The statue recently moved less than 100 feet into the Palm Springs Downtown Park by PS Resorts, which owns the sculpture. All are welcome to take pictures with Forever Marilyn in her new location.

“Marilyn Monroe’s birthday is the perfect time to officially introduce Forever Marilyn’s new location to the community, especially for those who have not yet had the opportunity to see her in the Downtown Park,” said Peggy Trott, Chair of PS Resorts. “Roughly 1 million visitors seek out Forever Marilyn each year, and she has become a beloved attraction by both residents and tourists alike. It’s important to spread the word that Forever Marilyn continues to stand tall in Palm Springs, ready to be photographed with and admired by fans from around the world.”

PS Resorts exists to create, foster and enhance events, attractions and activities to attract visitors to Palm Springs while promoting Palm Springs as a premier destination.

The 17-ton sculpture by artist Seward Johnson recreates the moment in the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch'' in which Monroe's white dress surges up toward her waist as she stands on a windy Manhattan subway grate.

It has been described as a ‘tourism phenomenon,’ attracting a steady stream of visitors daily and generating millions of dollars in local retail sales and media coverage in support of Palm Springs’ number one industry – tourism.

In 1949, at age 22, Marilyn was “discovered” in Palm Springs at Charlie Farrell’s Racquet Club by William Morris talent agent, Johnny Hyde. Many famous photos of Marilyn were taken around the Racquet Club’s swimming pool. In the 1950s, she was a regular visitor to Palm Springs with her husband, baseball luminary Joe DiMaggio.
