Car Thief Arrested Following Pursuit Through Coachella Valley: Police

The suspect was arrested after the pursuit.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — A suspect accused of stealing a vehicle and leading authorities on a vehicle pursuit that ended in Palm Springs was behind bars Friday.

The stolen vehicle call was reported at 1:25 p.m. Thursday in the area of Bob Hope and Casino drives, according to Lt. Deirdre Vickers of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies found the stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver failed to yield, prompting a pursuit.

The vehicle temporarily stopped in the area of Bob Hope and Dinah Shore drives in Rancho Mirage, where a passenger exited and fled on foot.

The pursuit ended in the area of Gene Autry Trail and Via Escuela in Palm Springs. The driver got out of the vehicle and fled before being captured and taken into custody without incident, Vickers said. The passenger had not been found as of Friday.

The department provided no descriptions of either person.
