College Of The Desert Students May Qualify For $100 Federal Grant

The U.S. Department of Education grant, up to $1800 per semester, aims to get students back to school amid the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic.

PALM DESERT, CA — The spring semester of 2022 began at College of the Desert on Monday. Students who enrolled are getting a little cash in their wallets to do so, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

With the college returning to class both online and in-person Monday, all in attendance qualify for up to $100 per credit thanks to that federal grant aimed at getting people back to school amid the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the grant students will be paid regardless of classes being credit or noncredit, college officials said.

According to the college, students taking up to 18 for-credit course units would earn up to $1,800 for the semester, more than double the per-unit cost of $46.

Students must enroll by March 15 to qualify for the grant.
