Two of the victims lived in upstate New York.

The man found dead following the Sunday afternoon report of gunshot victims at an apartment in the 2700 block of East Tahquitz Canyon Way was identified as 27-year-old Daniel Knauf, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Bianca Knauf, 23, and Sally Knauf, 59, of Rochester, New York, were the other two identified by the coroner.

A 2-year-old child was found asleep in the apartment and was uninjured, police Lt. Mike Kovaleff said.

Police believe Daniel Knauf shot and killed the two women before turning the gun on himself. Firearms were found inside the home, Kovaleff said.

Police had not received any earlier reports of gunshots being fired, and police responded only after the bodies were found by relatives and the employer of one of those who died, Kovaleff said.

Relatives and the employer had gone to the apartment to check on their welfare after trying to reach them by telephone and at the door, according to police.
