CSUSB Palm Desert Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Luncheon, Expansion Plans

Officials anticipate the campus will one day accommodate around 8,000 full-time students.

PALM DESERT, CA - Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert campus will celebrate its 30th anniversary Thursday with a luncheon event that includes delving into the school's plans for a massive expansion of the campus, which officials anticipate will one day accommodate around 8,000 full-time students, up from the current student body of around 1,400.

"The Next 30 Years" event will celebrate the school's growth from its humble beginnings as a branch campus at College of the Desert to its current plans for expansion from 62,000 to 1.6 million square feet, with a library and student housing among the facilities planned for construction.

The luncheon, to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will give attendees a chance to see the programs and build-out for the new campus, which school officials say will be possible through generous donations, and a 2015 donation of 114 acres of land from the city of Palm Desert.
