The figure illustrates an encouraging trend, as the state is requiring the water district to reduce residential water use by 36 percent or face penalties of up to $10,000 per day.
Earlier this month, CVWD announced that customers had reduced water use by 17 percent in May, when compared to the same month two years ago.

“Our customers have shown a strong commitment to water conservation,” said Heather Engel, the water district’s director of communication and conservation. “We applaud these efforts and thank our customers for making meaningful changes toward saving water.”
On July 1, new drought penalties went into effect for customers who use water inefficiently. Also, the agency’s 2015-16 budget includes $3.2 million for conservation rebate programs.
