Dad Killed, Young Daughter Wounded In Cathedral City Shooting

Authorities said the shooter approached the front door of a home and began firing.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A man who was fatally shot on his doorstep in Cathedral City was identified Tuesday, and authorities re-upped their plea for the public's help in finding his killer.

The shooting took place about 6:40 p.m. Monday in the 29000 block of Avenida La Vista, Cathedral City police Cmdr. Paul Herrera said.

Authorities said the shooter approached the front door of the house and began firing as resident Ruben Hernandez, 43, stood in the doorway. A pre-teen girl was also shot, police said. KESQ reported the girl was the man's 10-year-old daughter.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital, where she was stable, police said.

Relatives told KESQ the 10-year-old girl was in a room adjacent to the shooting location.

No suspect information was available. A motive for the shooting was unknown.
