When young drifter Jonas (Max Riemelt) begins a friendship with ageing and isolated Ruth (Hannelore Elsner), their two lives become intimately intertwined. Ruth, an ex-cabaret Yiddish performer with a suppressed life force, is struggling with moving into a retirement complex. Wandering throughout the city doing menial jobs, young Jonas tries to avoid being tied down. To Life! follows the two as they embark on an emotional journey to find the strength to embrace the next stages of their lives.
