Desert I-10 Crash Kills Texas Man

The victim, a 64-year-old man from Burleson, was driving a 3500 Ram truck hauling a trailer.

CHIRIACO SUMMIT, CA — A Texas man was killed Monday in a crash on Interstate 10, west of the Chiriaco Summit.

The desert crash was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. on westbound I-10, west of Box Canyon Road, in Riverside County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was a 64-year-old man from Burleson, Texas, who was driving a 3500 Ram truck hauling a trailer.

A preliminary CHP investigation determined the man was driving in the freeway's #2 lane when he veered to the right, causing the truck to smash into a metal guard rail, careen offroad and overturn.

The truck landed on its roof, trapping the Texas man. First responders were able to pull the injured man from the wreckage, but he died at the scene, according to the CHP.

He was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP reported.

The victim's identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CHP. Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is asked to call CHP Officer D. White at 760-772-5300.
