DOS Salon Gets 'Slexy'

Dennis Ogas, who has cut hair for nearly 30 years, invented the term "Slexy," which stands for his motto to make hair look sleek, sexy and sophisticated.

DOS Salon off El Paseo in Palm Desert is more than just a place where locals and tourists have gotten stylish haircuts for years. It's also a community gathering place where local artists showcase their work.

"I wanted to create a very relaxed upscale environment with a very personal touch," said Dennis Ogas, owner of , which is near San Luis Rey across from the former Native Foods.

Currently, Ogas is featuring artwork by James Jaeger, a Southern California-based photographer and filmmaker. The salon also has two flat screen televisions that will be streaming educational videos about hair.

"I'm very passionate about what I do. I'm a true hair cutter," Ogas said, adding that he moved to the Coachella Valley 14 years ago.

The salon boasts five stylists, who work together as a team, he said.

"I wanted to create some excitement. I wanted to create attention to the whole experience of our salon," Ogas said. "What I want people to experience is the music, the art, the people. I want it to be an experience. It's not just going to a hair salon to get a hair style. I want people to remember this, come back and talk to other people about it."

He said he specializes in the "slexy" look, a buzz word he created, which stands for "sleek, sexy, sophisticated." (See the YouTube video above for his latest commercial using the phrase.)

"It's kind of cheesy, but in a cool way," Ogas said.

His prices start at $50 for a haircut and the salon also offers base color, highlighting, men's color, styling, conditioning and hair extensions.

The salon is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Saturday.
