Dr. Kelly May-Vollmar Appointed To Desert Sands USD Superintendent

The appointment was made during Tuesday's regularly scheduled DSUSD Board of Education meeting.

LA QUINTA, CA — Longtime Desert Sands Unified School District educator Dr. Kelly May-Vollmar has been appointed to serve as the district’s next superintendent.

The appointment was made during Tuesday's regularly scheduled DSUSD Board of Education meeting.

May-Vollmar has served as assistant superintendent of educational and technology services in the district since 2019. Over the past 18 years, she has served in various roles, including elementary school principal, academic coach and international baccalaureate coordinator, and classroom teacher, according to the district.

"Dr. May-Vollmar’s extensive knowledge of the district and her positive relationship with students, staff, and community sets the stage for a smooth transition in leadership," DSUSD Board President Ana Conover said in a released statement.

May-Vollmar will officially take the helm on July 01. She follows retiring superintendent Scott Bailey who was appointed in 2017.

May-Vollmar has received numerous local, state, and national awards, the district said. She received her doctorate in organizational leadership in 2018 from the University of LaVerne. Her master’s degree in teaching is from Chapman University where she also earned her undergraduate degree, according to the district.
