Earthquakes Rattle Salton Sea Area
The temblors were centered near the area impacted by an earthquake swarm that hit last month and into early October.
IMPERIAL VALLEY, CA — A series of earthquakes rattled Imperial Valley Thursday afternoon, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage in the sparsely populated region.
The first temblor, which measured a magnitude 2.5, struck near Niland at 1:45 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Society.
Fourteen minutes later, a magnitude 4.0 temblor rocked the area, following by two magnitude 3.3 quakes near Calipatria, about 10 miles north of Niland.

The quakes, which were being felt across Southern California, are continuing in the area, according to the USGS. As of 2:26 p.m., six temblors were reported by the USGS.
Thursday's temblors are near the area of an earthquake swarm that shook the Salton Sea region last month and into early October. During the episode, hundreds of quakes rattled the region.
