Earthquakes Rock Southern California Desert Near Salton Sea

The epicenters for all three quakes were just off the Salton Sea shoreline.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — Three earthquakes rattled the Coachella and Imperial valleys Monday morning, but there were no reports of injuries or serious damage.

The first temblor, which measured a magnitude 4.0, struck at 10:04 a.m. about 6 miles southwest of Niland, according to the U.S. Geological Society.

Two subsequent quakes struck the area, one at 10:11 a.m. just southeast of Salton City that registered a magnitude 2.5, and a magnitude 3.0 that hit at 10:16 a.m. about 6 miles northwest of Calipatria.
