El Paseo Kicks Off Season With Palm Desert First Weekend, Parade, And More

From The City of El Paseo: Season is in full-swing on El Paseo with all of the favorite shops and restaurants officially re-opened, the annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade returning on October 29, Palm Desert First Weekend kicking off on November 3, and the annual Thanksgiving Day 5k coming up on November 23.

The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade is back on October 29 with this year’s theme: Desert Safari. Stepping off at 12 noon and traveling he length og El Paseo, the parade is the largest parade of its kind in the world and is the longest running in the Coachella Valley. This year's Grand Marshal is Gavin MacLeod, best known for his role as Captain Stubing on the Love Boat. Get there early to secure a spot for viewing. Bring beach chairs or make a reservation at one of the patio restaurants and enjoy lunch too!

Palm Desert First Weekend returns November 3-5 with El Paseo Cruise Night and El Paseo Art Walk on Friday, November 3. Get a close-up look at lovingly cared for classic cars on the upper level of The Gardens on El Paseo parking structure, then watch them cruise the street between Highway 74 and Portola. Talk with the owners as the cool, shiny cars begin arriving around 3:15 p.m. before they begin cruising El Paseo between 4 and 6 p.m. El Paseo Art Walk, a self-guided stroll among the numerous art galleries on the famed avenue, takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information about Palm Desert First Weekend, visit pdfirstweekend.com.

El Paseo also plays host to the 11th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K benefiting Martha’s Village and Kitchen, set for Thanksgiving Day, November 23, starting at 8 a.m. The charity race, presented by KMIR and Carl’s Jr., is both competitive (certified course/timed race) and casual with prizes for the winners in several age categories.
