Empowerment Event For Youth, Adults Set For Oct. 17 In CV

INDIO, CA — A one-day event focused on empowering young people and adults through workshops, educational resources and guest speakers will take place next week in Indio.

"Raising the Future" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Riverside County Office of Education Indio Conference Center, located at 83- 625 Dr Carreon Blvd.

The free, family-friendly event will feature workshops in leadership, career development and wellness, more than $10,000 in scholarships and giveaways, live music and food.

"When we bring education, community organizations, public agencies and families together around a shared purpose, we have the power to change the trajectory of a young person's life," Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Edwin Gomez said in a statement.

The keynote speakers will include Scott Budnick, a film and television producer, CEO of 1Community and founder of the criminal justice organization the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, and Victor Rios, a leading voice on youth resilience, educational transformation and creating pathways to success for young people facing adversity, officials said.

Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez will also share his insights on justice reform, equity and local empowerment efforts.

"I started this path with our county Probation Department to create action to bring about change at reducing youth incarceration," Perez said.

Organizers said attendees will have access to community resources, networking opportunities. American Sign Language and Spanish-language translation will be available during the event.
