The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert recently hosted its inaugural school tour with students, faculty and parents from The Academy of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church.
More than 40 students, grades first through fifth, toured the museum’s main building, The Galen, and the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden. After being welcomed by Education Programs Manager Krystal Glasman, two museum docents guided the group through the current exhibition Rodin to Now: Modern Sculpture, highlighting the evolution of sculpture as represented by the various works of art.
“It was a pleasure having The Academy, a Palm Desert school, as the first of many field trips scheduled to expose students to the world of art,” said Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert General Manager Arlene Amick.

“Being a new school, it was a privilege to be one of the first to experience the museum. We are fortunate to have a museum of this quality in our city and look forward to an ongoing partnership,” said The Academy Headmaster Rich Cansdale.
Prior to visiting the museum, students toured the neighboring Certified Farmers’ Market as part of a community partnership between the two entities. Future school excursions taking place October through May will include a tour of the museum exhibitions, and may also involve art activities, garden tours, and the farmers’ market.
The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert is located at 72-567 Highway 111 at Entrada del Paseo (corner of Highway 111 and El Paseo).
