LA QUINTA, CA — A gas leak at the 47000 block of Washington Street and South of Avenue 47 has led to the evacuation of a commercial building, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department shared.

Four commercial medical facilities between Avenues 47 and 48 were evacuated during the incident, according to a Cal Fire spokesperson. "We expect one hour before containment, and all road closures and evacuations are expected to continue until the repairs are made."

Shortly before 8 a.m., firefighters arrived at the scene where a two-inch gas main leak was impacting a commercial building.

Southern California Gas, Riverside County Environmental Health, and the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire HazMat team were called to the scene to mitigate the incident.

Both lanes of Washington Street would remain closed while the gas leak remains active, and alternate routes through that area were recommended.
