Gunman Fires On Coachella Valley Father And Child; Suspect Arrested

Police arrested a 20-year-old Coachella man suspected of repeatedly shooting at a vehicle with an 8-year-old boy and his father inside.

COACHELLA, CA — Authorities arrested a 20-year-old Coachella man on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly shooting at a car with a father and his 8-year-old son inside, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Sunday.

The shooting occurred in the 84100 block of Tera Vista in Coachella at 8:10 a.m. Saturday morning, according to investigators. A 30-year-old man and his son were inside a vehicle that was repeatedly struck by bullets, but no one was injured in the shooting.

Authorities identified 20-year-old Feliciano Navarette III as the suspect in the shooting. He fled the area in a white BMW, but investigators tracked him down to Long Beach hours later, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"At 5:05 PM, Navarette III, was located in the 200 block of East Shoreline Dr., in the city of Long Beach and taken into custody without incident," the sheriff's department said in a written statement. "The Thermal Station Investigations Bureau served a search warrant on the vehicle Navarette III was driving, and the firearm that was suspected of being used in the shooting was recovered."

Navarette III was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio, on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.
