Head of Small Business Administration Visiting Coachella Valley
She'll meet with Congressman Raul Ruiz.

The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration will visit the Coachella Valley Tuesday.
Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Palm Desert, will host SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet when she visits sites around the Coachella Valley.

-- at noon, Contreras-Sweet will speak at a Small Business Forum luncheon at Desert Willow Resort in Palm Desert, then participate in a question- and-answer session with business and community leaders;
-- at 2:30 p.m., she and Ruiz will tour Las Casuelas Nuevas Mexican restaurant in Rancho Mirage;

-- at 3:30 p.m., they’ll tour the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership’s Accelerator Campus and iHub business incubator in Palm Springs; and
-- at 4:20 p.m., they’ll visit the SciTech Academy at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
Contreras-Sweet, who was born in Mexico and immigrated with her family at age 5, became a member of the presidential cabinet in April when chosen to head the federal agency that provides loans and other forms of assistance to small businesses.
She previously served as California Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing, helped found the California Endowment health foundation and worked in the private sector as director of public affairs for 7- Up, according to the SBA.
