Heads Up: DUI Checkpoint Planned Saturday In Palm Desert

The RivCo Sheriff's Department reminds drivers impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Prescription & over-counter meds may be hazardous.

PALM DESERT, CA — The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station recently announced it will hold a DUI checkpoint this weekend at an undisclosed location within the city.

The operation will run from 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 through 3 a.m. Sunday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Officials reminded motorists that impaired driving is not just alcohol-related, as some prescription and over-the-counter medications also may interfere with behind-the-wheel safety.

"Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or 'operating heavy machinery,' which includes driving a car," the department said, adding that "while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal."

"If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home," deputies said. "If you are going to a bar or restaurant, designate a sober driver before heading out for the evening."
