Indio Seeks Public Input On How To Spend Grant Funding
Three specific areas of Indio have been identified as eligible for California Strategic Growth Council grant funding.

INDIO, CA — The city of Indio is asking the public to weigh in on local economic and environmental issues during two meetings scheduled this week.
The city of Indio and the Coachella Valley Association of Governments are partnering on the project, which focuses on three specific areas of Indio that were identified as eligible for funding through California Strategic Growth Council’s Transformative Climate Communities Program, administered in partnership with the California Department of Conservation. The areas include portions of downtown and the Jewel Community, located east of Jackson Street and north of Avenue 45, according to the city.
The meetings will help officials identify the priorities of residents, including affordable housing, sidewalks, bike lanes, community gardens, parks and trees, the city said.

“The Transformative Climate Communities Plan is focused on engaging residents in the study area to tell us what is important to them,” said Kevin Snyder, director of community development. “This information will be invaluable as we pursue grant funding for future projects to implement what the residents feel is most valuable.”
An online meeting in English will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11. An online meeting in Spanish will be held at the same time on Thursday, Aug. 13. The meetings will be held via Zoom, and broadcast to the city’s website and Facebook pages.
