Indio Wrong Way Minivan Crash Proves Fatal
A man died as a result of the wrong-way eastbound I-10 collision near the off ramp at Monroe Street.
INDIO, CA — A motorist was killed and two other people with major injuries when a minivan traveling the wrong-way on eastbound Interstate I-10 in Indio collided head-on with a car, authorities said Tuesday.
The crash was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol. A silver Mazda MVP traveling the wrong-way onto the Monroe Street off-ramp crashed head-on with a white Hyundai Sonata that was exiting the freeway.
The impact caused the Mazda to catch on fire with the driver trapped inside the vehicle. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified only as a 62-year-old man from Indio, and a passenger identified as a 58-year-old woman from Indio were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
The Mazda was also occupied by a 42-year-old man from Cherry Valley. It was not immediately known if he sustained any injuries.
