Infant Killed in Palm Desert Cliff Crash

PALM DESERT, CA -A 5-month-old girl was killed and two adults were seriously injured over the weekend when a car tumbled 200 feet down the side of the Palms To Pines Highway above Palm Desert.

California Highway Patrol officers were investigating the possibility that the child -- who was identified by the coroner's office as Armani Green of Rancho Mirage -- was sitting in a lap in the ill-fated Porsche, a two seater, according to the Desert Sun newspaper.

The car was heading toward the desert about 8 a.m. Saturday when it crashed through a barrier and fell down a cliff on Highway 74 near the Coachella Valley Vista Point, authorities said.

The girl's body was found outside of the wrecked Porsche.

A man and a woman were found in the car. They were airlifted to a hospital where the woman was treated for a serious back injury, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man's injuries were less severe.

Route 74 from Palm Desert to the Route 371 junction in Aguanga was closed from 8 a.m. until about 2 p.m., the CHP reported.
