Jane Campion To Be Honored At Palm Springs Intl. Film Awards
She will receive the Director of the Year award for her film "The Power of the Dog."
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Jane Campion will be honored with the Director of the Year award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards for her film "The Power of the Dog," festival organizers announced Wednesday.
The awards will take place in person on Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will kick off the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which will run until Jan. 17.
Campion is best known for her debut film "The Piano," which saw her nominated for an Academy Award for best director — an honor bestowed on only seven woman.

"The Power of the Dog," based on the Thomas Savage novel of the same name and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee, tells the story of a sadistic rancher who torments his brother's new family until long-hidden secrets come to light.
"Jane Campion has once again created a cinematic masterpiece with her latest film 'The Power of the Dog.' This psychological drama set against a Western backdrop, brings to life Thomas Savage's novel with stellar work from an ensemble cast led by Benedict Cumberbatch," festival chairman Harold Matzner said.
