Larry Ellison's Rancho Mirage Retreat Now Taking Reservations

The tech mogul's private Sensei Porcupine Creek property in Rancho Mirage will start welcoming guests beginning Nov. 1.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and his private Sensei Porcupine Creek property in Rancho Mirage will start welcoming guests beginning Nov. 1, it was announced Tuesday.

Bookings at the "ultra-luxury retreat" are now open, according to a news release from Sensei. The retreat offers 22 "luxury-appointed" accommodations across the property, including several two- or four-bedroom private villas, according to the news release. Special packages and rates for stays can be found here.

Set within the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains, Ellison's 230-acre private estate is the first standalone wellness, golf and tennis resort operated solely by Sensei. Sensei was founded by Ellison and physician Dr. David Agus. The pair teamed to provide "data-driven health knowledge" in programs and services that "promote preventative care and healthy lifestyle practices," according to the news release.

The property is located about a half-mile southwest of Highway 111, west of the Magnesia Falls Cove neighborhood. It is "intended as a haven for an array of health-conscious spa and sport enthusiasts to come together in an intimate, luxurious setting with a common interest — to learn how to live a longer, healthier life long after the [stay] ends," the news release stated.

Ellison has an inside lead on some of the clientele who might frequent the new high-end retreat: The tech mogul is a tennis fan who helped expand the sport in the Coachella Valley. He purchased the BNP Paribas Open and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for $100 million in 2009. The annual BNP Paribas Open attracts the world's best professional tennis players and brings millions of tourism dollars to the valley each year. Ellison has hosted top players at Porcupine Creek during the event.

But the Sensei Porcupine Creek property is not just for pros. For example, golf and tennis enthusiasts can book an "Optimal Wellbeing Program" to hone their skills while improving their overall health, productivity and game, according to the news release. The sports packages include one-on-one lessons and video analysis with a golf or tennis pro, and personal health data captured through a complimentary wearable device for guests. The data measure certain health biomarkers, and guests work alongside a team of guides, nutritionists, exercise physiologists and mindfulness coaches to make sense of it all.

The private 18-hole golf course at the retreat features a series of lakes, streams and waterfalls with views of the surrounding mountains, and tee times are not required for guests. The property's Har-Tru and hard tennis courts were built to reflect the Indian Wells Tennis Garden courts, according to the news release.

For those who seek wellness without golf and/or tennis, the retreat also offers a spa and daily activities such as yoga, meditation, fitness and lectures. There's even a 30-day or longer "Sensei Sabbatical Experience" designed to "enhance long-term wellbeing," according to the press release.

Private dining with nutrition options will be offered as a collaboration between Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Dr. Agus.

"Open exclusively to retreat guests, the concept marries Nobu’s acclaimed and innovative cuisine with Sensei’s evidence-led approach to nutrition. The ever-changing menu is crafted with fresh ingredients that stay true to how nature delivers them with each meal designed to ignite the senses and provide optimal benefits," according to the news release.

“Sensei is excited to offer leisure travelers the full expression of its brand through programs and services that support greater wellbeing at its resort in Rancho Mirage. Immersed in nature, Sensei Porcupine Creek will provide a place for those who wish to discover more about healthier living, hone their sport performance, simply relax in an elegant setting, enjoy great cuisine, or indulge in therapeutic spa treatments,” said Sensei CEO Kevin Kelly. “While providing luxury hospitality, Sensei remains committed to science-led, curated offerings designed with the Sensei Way in mind — organized around the paths of movement, rest and nourishment.”

The November opening is Sensei's follow-up to its debut property, Sensei Lāna'i, A Four Seasons Resort, which is located on the Hawaiian island of Lāna’i.

Ellison purchased the desert property in 2011 for a reported $43 million from billionaire Tim Blixseth.
